Welcome to Vol.3 of this Tradelocks guided series on how to pick and decode the Ford Jaguar HU101 lock using the Genuine Lishi pick and decoder tool.
Decoding the 10-Cut Ford Jaguar HU101 Lock
To decode the lock, the lock must be picked open and held in the open position. We decode in the same direction as we picked, by positioning the arrow on the lift arm on each position numbered line on the grid and gently moving the arrow along the line in the direction we picked, past the spring until it stops. It will stop on a line that corresponds to a key cut on the right-side grid, this will be your key cut.
So, with our lock held in the open position, we decode the lock:
Position one reads as a number two key cut
Position two reads as a number one cut
Position three reads as a number one cut
Position four reads as a number three key cut
Position five reads as a number four key cut
Position six reads as a number two key cut
Position seven reads as a number three key cut
Position eight, as expected, reads as a number five key cut
Position nine reads as a number three key cut
Position ten reads as a number two key cut
So, our decode is complete: from bow to tip, positions one to 10, our lock has decoded as a key of “2113423532”. As we can see, it follows the key rules. No cut is more than two cuts away from the cut next door to it and the tenth position is a two cut. This relates to the manufacturer key code of 2510, so we can either enter the code into our cut to code machine or input the cuts.
Tips for Continued Decode Accuracy
As mentioned earlier, excessive tension can distort the picking tip and cause the decode to be out and the tip to break. Over a period of time, pick tips can wear and cause reads between the lines. This can be overcome by knowing your own tool.
If the snib on the pick tip is distorted by just a tenth of a millimetre, it will read a whole cut out on the grid, thus the need to curb excessive tension on this tool style and lock.
What is suggested is to take a lock that you know the key cuts for and pick and decode it. This will confirm if your tool is picking bang on the line or just above or just below a line. Armed with this knowledge, you can compensate on the job and always get an accurate decode.
